Color and Material Design
Luxome | 2023 Sponsored Studio
Scholarship Awarded / Design Selected for Production
Luxome is a local luxury brand specializing in comfortable and sustainable home-wear. Teaming up with Product Design, our challenge was to find a solution for a soft, but breathable slipper. The solution I chose required deep research on material properties and new applications. Utilizing 3D knitting manufacturing abilities and technical textiles to create a soft solution with anti-bacterial properties, which pulls heat from the foot and transfers it out, cooling as it reaches the air, through the use of nano-particles mixed with a soft baby alpaca wool combination.
Knit the Fabric of Reality | 2026 Thesis Proposal
Digitization and potential use of AI within knitwear is putting humanity on the fast track to new modes of making soft goods and with innovative material approaches; opening knit structures to be utilized in industries beyond fashion. This integral structure is becoming the fabric of our modern reality, with material and manufacturing techniques as its main driver.
This analysis of knit will explore philosophical and scientific literature, alongside industry insights to the future applications of knitwear. Diving further into crafts counterculture roots, its community building potential, economic possibilities of additive mass manufacturing, and sustainable potentials of 3D knitting. From hand-knitting communities to large-scale manufacturing methods, this structure's role exists as a versatile medium for artistic expression, with its therapeutic potential and multifaceted functions within our current society.
The Oxidation Method | 2024 Material Lab
The most phenomenal example nature provides of this process are the ore deposits that color the Pictured Rocks Lake-shore in Northern Michigan. By taking elements of nature and a method of shibori dyeing, which utilizes rust for textile color manipulation. This sparked curiosity of how the accelerated oxidation and corrosion of different metals can change other material surfaces. This exploration utilizes wood, concrete, iron, copper, and sheet metal as the core material surfaces.
